I downloaded a hypnosis app. on my iPod Touch for $1.99 and it actually helped. It came with a preset of tracks like "Stress Management" and "Eat Healthy," but I thought about being taller and my limbs felt like they were getting longer.

As for the self-hypnosis books, absolutely you can use the scripts in
the books and record your own stuff. Honestly that is one of the best
ways to do it because you will respond to your own voice much more
dramatically than anyone elses. I personally, prefer listening to
other
peoples material, because I have a tendancy to relive the experience of
recording it and analyze the heck out of what it sounds like rather
than
relax and absorb the information... but all that to say that all
hypnosis is self-hypnosis. You bring yourself into hypnosis anyway,
whether you are listening to me or your own recording. Just make sure
that you read up on things like pacing and how to formulate the
suggestions and what have you and get it more personal to you... change
words if you need to but, understanding the structure of suggestions is
important to have in place before you get into rewriting the scripts.

When I first got interested in hypnois, a book that I found interesting was 'Hypnosis for Beginners' by William W. Hewitt. It's a pretty down to earth and basic look at hypnosis, but still inspiring. At one point he talks of one incident when he hypnotized a woman to heal a lacerated foot. In a short time (like a week) the woman went to her doctor and said that here footwas healed and to remove the cast. She told the doctor
that she would take a hammer and break the cast herself if it he didn't do it. In fear of the woman injuring herself, the doctor removed it and said that the look on the doctor's face was priceless. There was
nothing left but a small line where the foot was once cut almost to the bone. The doctor didn't know what to say and the woman told him that she was doing hypnosis. The doctor said something like "I thought
you knew better than to go to quacks, obviously you don't trust me to be your doctor...so let this be your last visit here". The woman asked him how did her foot heal then, and the doctor supposedly mumbled that he must have misdiagnosed it. Of course, you know that
it's almost impossible to misdiagnose a lacerated foot. I just thought that was a pretty motivating story.

There are also a lot of other stories about growing with hypnosis. I'm not talking programs you buy either. Most of the ones that came from dedicated longtime users were from people that used their own scripts and inductions. Here's another one.

Before you begin looking for training materials, you should firstly consider your aims and objectives. Why do you want to learn hypnosis? Obviously, learning hypnosis for stage performance is a completely different skill from learning for private session. Although the basic principles are the same, you need to have different personality traits, and a different approach to your art form. Decide before you begin seeking materials what you're looking to gain out of hypnosis, and then plan your training accordingly to best meet the needs of what you're looking to achieve.
