you can fracture them, same way you break a bone. But I dont think anyone would try to lift so much weight that it would break their bones.

Starting height:5'7 (in August)
now:5'8 at night
Goal height:5'10
Dream Height:6'0
Gender:Male
age:17

they are cartilage stores at the end of long bones. they ossify when you stop growing. you could damage these cartilage, but i dont see how you'd break it by compression. maybe if an elephant sat on your shoulders. but that'd break all your bones. lol.

RE: How effective is weight lifting for helping growth?
weight lifting produces tons of HGH, which of course can make you grow taller. "Weights make you shorter" is just a myth unless you do 200 lbs squats. And normal weight lifting doesn't make you buff, instead it tones your body and helps you keep a higher metabolism level(which means you can't gain weight that easily)

Age: 14Y 6M
Height: 5'8"
Start: 5'7"
Arm Span: 5'10.5"
Morning: 5'8.5"
Goal: 6'
Dream: 6'1"
Dad: 5'10"
Mom: 5'2"

200 isn't heavy for a lot of people including those who are new to lifting. If you've built your way up to 200+ then your body would be more adapted to holding that weight and wouldn't compress as much, but even so the compression will be temporary and resolved during sleep.

I believe that weight lifting is good for growth, but with al those examples you are making yourself ridiculous. There are a lot examples of short bodybuilders too, so what's the point.
In every sport you have tall and short people!

Age: 16
Height: 5'10'
Goal: 6'3'
I'm sure I'm going to achieve my goal!Big Grin
