@ wilhu12
Trust me ,no.. You increase your height through puberty. After growth stop, you will not gain any inch by lifting weight. weight lifting and increase your height is very unrelated. wrong if you say increase your height. Yes, it strengthen the bones, and gives you health. but not increase your height. Correct me if I am wrong. You maybe can ask fitness pro in your country. Maybe for you yes, cause you are 14. What about people 28 yo??? Think about it. |

The majority of people here should know by now that growing will only occur during puberty and chances of height increase after puberty is unlikely. Therefore, he had no need to even mention that it would only help during puberty. 24 June 2010 Age: 17 I am a body builder here to discuss height growth. Height is not my main goal. RE: How effective is weight lifting for helping growth?
I honestly think weightlifting will help you grow if you're still in puberty. I think a perfect example would be Taylor Lautner (the twilight guy). If you look at his height before you started working out for new moon, he was 5'6''. Then he started working out like crazy and taking a bunch of protein shakes and eating lots of protein and he now stands at 5'10'' (1 year later). Yes his growth plates probably haven't closed, but all the proteins and workouts he was doing elevated his HGH levels.
And I think my doctor is completely uneducated. She told me that benching will stunt your growth but she never told me how running crazy long distances (like I was doing for Cross Country) could damage the cartilage in your legs (which even my coach told me would happen lol) Age: 16 Beginning height: 5'8'' Current height: 5'9'' Goal Height: 6'1'' Dad's Height: 5'11'' Mom's height: 5'0'' Weight: 183 pounds 7%BF Routine: Sprinting, Working Out, Dead Lifts, some biking, Swimming, milk, Niacin, Zinc Monomethionine, Magnesium Glycinate, Vitamin K and K2, and Faith in GOD! |

RE: How effective is weight lifting for helping growth?
Any exercise is good for growth. The most effective are short bursts of high-intensity cardio (like sprinting up a hill) for the release of exercise-induced growth hormone. Second or equally effective is heavy weightlifting.
The worst exercises for growth are what some would call "sissy cardio" workouts. This is jogging at 4 miles per hour forever. In fact, one study I recall showed that joggers had lower IGF-1 than those who stretched and didn't exercise at all! Prolonged cardio workouts increase cortisol, which inhibits growth on the growth plate, and inhibits growth hormone. |
