Weight Lifting for height
I would like to start pumping a little iron. I am tired of being the only guy in the weight room at the YMCA who is on the pull up bars because I am afraid of stunting my growth by lifting weights. To put it simply, I would appreciate any feedback in regards to the following areas: Weight and muscle building exercises that can or should help increase growth if performed correctly, weight and muscle building exercises that if performed wrong should stunt growth, and any weight and muscle building exercises that will surely stunt growth regardless of whether they are performed right or wrong.
I will be extremely grateful to anyone who provides some good information on this topic. I would like to start some moderate weight lifting in the next few days. I am just waiting to see what everyone has to say.

RE: Weight Lifting for height
Don't do squats with overly large amounts of weight. Say you're 150 lbs, don't go around squatting 400 lbs.

RE: Weight Lifting for height
Thanks man. Also would anyone know if push ups, dumbbell curls, dead lifts, bent over rowing, rowing on a rowing machine, crunches, sit ups, planks, lunges with dumbbells, reverse push ups, triceps dips, and bench pressing are good or bad for your height? Also are any of the machines that involve pushing or lifting weights with your legs, chest, or back good or bad?

RE: Weight Lifting for height
Currently I am using dumbbells that are similar to barbells. On the dumbbells you can add weights to each side in the same way that you can add weights to each side of a barbell. Each handle is about 3 pounds and they have a 2.5 pound plate on each side. So that makes 2 8 pound dumbbells. Do you think this is a good starting weight for doing light lifting?

RE: Weight Lifting for height
make sure to stretch after weight lifting. you don't want your muscles to interfere with bone growth.
weight lifting is THE way to increase hgh levels in your blood. The actual weight you're using really doesn't matter, unless you're not sweating like a pig after 15 minutes. train the bigger muscles in your body to have a maximal release of hgh, eg quadriceps (stretch!!), pectoralis, triceps, abdominal, ..
height 6'3
age 18
starting height at 16: 5'9.5
parents height: both 5'7
i <3 redheads!!

RE: Weight Lifting for height
brent, ask a qualified perfessional. I heard that weight lifting stunted your growth, but this was probably because a rumor that went around and it eventually ended up as a fact.
I know for certain that doing strenious weight lifting with heavy weights with exercises like bench press, deadlifts, squats will no doubt produce a lot of GH. I had trouble gaining any type of muscle until I did these compound exercises.
BTW: Will Smith is NOT 6'2''. He's shorter than Isiah Thomas who is 6'1''. Smith is 6' tops. Maybe 6'2'' in the boots he's always wearing. If you found his height on IMBD, don't believe it. That site has to be taken with a grain of salt. They have Justin Timberlake at 6'2''. LMAO! 5'10'' tops. Then they have Nelly at 6'0.75''. LMAO! He's 5'8'' tops.

RE: Weight Lifting for height
Yea, I did get the Height on IMDB. It's hard to know what's real and what isn't. I can believe that Will Smith is 6'0. He just looks a lot taller than most other people and there are a lot of people that are 6'0 or within an inch or two. He does wear a lot of boots though. Also Nelly is really short, I'll admit that.
I guess as long as I use good form and do lots of stretching, I should be fine. After about 15 or 20 minutes on my routine, I usually sweat pretty hard. I just need to get used to it.
